Jews In The Clear!

Or at least Pope Benny won't re-institute a prayer calling for their conversion, as was threatened earlier in the week. Quite a come down after John Paul; the best thing this new guy has done is not to insult the Jews and not to entirely embrace Biblical literalism.

What do you expect from someone with rumoured connections to the nazi's. Seems this guy wants to be like the pope who turned a blind eye to hitler.

Disgusting.

Seems strange to expect muslims to moderate when the Catholic Church is moving back to the same fundamentalism as the muslims.

so the secret is out . . . I got my C4 suicide vest last Sunday after mass, with a promise of 72 young nuns as my reward.

Anon #1: The Pope has no connections to the Nazi, and there isn't a shred of evidence that he ever supported them or their aims. His father, as a faithful Catholic, was completely opposed to them. As for his "membership" in the Hitler Youth - every German citizen of his age was automatically enrolled. It's a completely unfounded smear to say he went out and "joined them". He never attended a meeting.

Anon #3: You can't be serious. Do you even know what religious fundamentalism is? The Holy Father has spoken out against it on many occasions. The Church must always be guided by the three pillars: sacred scripture, sacred oral tradition, and magisterial teaching. There is absolutely no room for fundamentalism in the Church. It is purely a protestant movement.

If you mean orthodoxy, then yes, the church is becoming more orthodox (or conservative) in its teaching. It's something I and many millions of Catholics are very pleased with.

To the original poster: The church has not removed this prayer. It remains in effect for the good friday liturgy in traditional communities. That is, communities where the Traditional Latin Mass is the norm, the 1962 missal may be used during the pascal tridium. The reason Novus Ordo communities can't use it is because Canon Law forbids two different liturgies on the same day during the pascal tridium.

Mous#5 may be right here.

"The Pope," continued Father Lombardi, "simply wants to offer to those who feel a deep desire, an easier possibility of celebrating the liturgy according to the form of the Roman rite previously in use, to do so serenely, sensing it benevolently welcomed and inserted into the great Catholic community."

Shorter Benny : If some of y'all feel more comfortable keeping the "perfidious Jews" bit, go nuts.

Yes, your type would be pleased, since it results in chasing even more progressives out of the Church so you can go back to gay-hating unopposed.

Enjoy it while it lasts. When Ratzi kicks the bucket soon (the old queen is what...115?), this little period of regression will come to an end.

What's with the picture of Chretien?
