Conservatives Who Are Pissed Off Over Prorogation

This New Facebook group--Conservatives Calling for Stephen Harper to Step Down--is something I can really get behind. Its growing by leaps and bounds, which is to say there were 12 members at 7:30, and 13 members an hour later--an astonishing eight per cent increase!!!

When you go over there your supposed to be a Conservative. Remember to type with your knuckles.

PS. Now I've joined! At this rate, our numbers will double by Wednesday!!!

"When you go over there your (sic) supposed to be a Conservative."

Was that intentional? Typing with your knuckles already? You hadn't even joined the group yet :-)

No. But I will leave it in.

Actually, I applaud those conservatives for stepping up and would prefer that progressives not screw up the numbers. So there are only about a dozen who are making this demand. Better than none.

Should start another group: "Progressives Supporting Conservatives Calling for Stephen Harper to Step Down"

It'll probably be larger than the group it supports.

Mark,

We already know progressives are band-wagon-jumping collectivists. This is just further proof.

That from a teenage Libertarian.

Shut up, BCL. You're so old that everyone under 30 looks like a teenager to you.

You're so old you probably remember when Jack Layton last sounded sincere.

In all seriousness, the conservatives should start organizing a movement to dump Harper. The man has created how many crises now of his own making, thanks to his unbridled partisan ways and underestimation of the 60+% that did not (and never will) vote for him. The only way towards a majority for the CPoC is to reach out to the undecideds and disenfranchised red-tories of this country, and his actions to date are not helping him. He was very close to losing government all together last year thanks to a naked swipe to end public election funding for political parties. Now he’s abusing parliamentary procedures to end opposition criticism, an unprecedented move for which prorogation has not been used in ANY Westminster-style government within the Commonwealth in its 600+ year history. But almost no thought from the Harperbots out there as to what precedent this could set for future governments, read possible future Liberal-NDP minority governments.

The man obviously has shown he can not win a majority government, he is a well-known commodity now, polarizes people too much and carries a lot of baggage. With almost two months of constant opposition attacks thanks to prorogation, there is no way he can recover that 10% poll advantage by the spring budget. He will rebound a bit, but not enough to win a majority should an election be called anytime in the foreseeable future.

The best strategy is for the CPoC to pull a ‘Thatcher’ and begin a solid effort to ditch him before the next election. Image if they select someone who’s not from Alberta as a leader, or better yet an old-school Red Tory like Bernard Lord? The baggage is gone, and the game is totally changed.

Or they can keep Harper and take a chance that Canadians will forget everything he’s done over the past 4 years.

Good luck with that.
