Boy I don't think one needs a gun to have freedom, because a gov't that believes in freedom and the Country has freedom, no one needs false safety.
what if the aliens have guns?
If there are aliens out there bent on invading Earth, and they possess the kind of technology required to undertake interstellar travel -- trust me -- they will arrive with more than our over-sized pea-shooters, or crude atomic fission bombs.
On the bright side; it is more likely that lifeforms so intelligent as to evolve to such an advanced technological level; would also evolve mentally way beyond such basal primeval tendencies as needing to eradicate perceived "lesser beings".
In other words...
They wouldn't act like paranoid US Republicans ;)
