FREEP This Petition

From Avaaz.org:

Stop the Climate-Wrecking at Bali

Climate negotiations in Bali are in crisis. Things were looking good till now: near-consensus on a delicate deal, including 2020 targets for rich countries, in return for which China and the developing world would do their part over time. IPCC scientists have said such targets are needed to prevent catastrophe. But Japan, the US and Canada are banding together to wreck the deal, and the rest of the world is starting to waver...

We can’t let three stubborn governments throw away the planet's future. We have until the end of Friday to do everything we can. Please sign our emergency global petition below -- we'll deliver it through stunts at the summit, a full-page ad in the Financial Times in Asia, and directly to country delegates to stiffen their nerve against any bad compromise. Add your name to the campaign below now!

"We call urgently for the US, Canada and Japan to stop blocking serious 2020 targets for emissions reductions, and for the rest of the world to refuse to accept anything less."

The link above leads to the petition. Go nuts. As you know, I think online petitions are a farce, but Galactus might show up later and throw his oar into the water.

PS, there are supposed to be 600 people in the human banner above. I estimate about half that (there seem to be about 200 in the water).

there might not be a god, but there is a pope and he's outting the WARMonger fools

The Pope Condemns the Climate Change Prophets

By Simon Caldwell, Daily Mail

Pope Benedict XVI has launched a surprise attack on climate change prophets of doom, warning them that any solutions to global warming must be based on firm evidence and not on dubious ideology. The leader of more than a billion Roman Catholics suggested that fears over man-made emissions melting the ice caps and causing a wave of unprecedented disasters were nothing more than scare-mongering. The German-born Pontiff said that while some concerns may be valid it was vital that the international community based its policies on science rather than the dogma of the environmentalist movement. His remarks will be made in his annual message for World Peace Day on January 1, but they were released as delegates from all over the world convened on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali for UN climate change talks.

“It is important for assessments in this regard to be carried out prudently, in dialogue with experts and people of wisdom, uninhibited by ideological pressure to draw hasty conclusions, and above all with the aim of reaching agreement on a model of sustainable development capable of ensuring the well-being of all while respecting environmental balances. “If the protection of the environment involves costs, they should be justly distributed, taking due account of the different levels of development of various countries and the need for solidarity with future generations. “Prudence does not mean failing to accept responsibilities and postponing decisions; it means being committed to making joint decisions after pondering responsibly the road to be taken.”

Anon,

Of the 158 stories on the Pope's announcement, Simon Caldwell's is the only one that gives it this spin. What the Pope actually says is entirely supportive of the Bali conference.

Papa sez:

Maybe it's time to pull all special tax status from the church until such time as they can provide "firm evidence" that the ranting homeless guy they worship walked on water.

Thanks for posting this, BCL. It would be nice to get an outcry like the one about the proposed copyright law.

The world is slowly waking up to what a scam this is. The more people learn about climate, the more they realize that our understanding of it is tiny, and that these proposed actions to 'save the planet' are ridiculous.

Truth and science are anathema to you global warming, er, climate change zealots.

In conclusion...*FAAAAART*

anti-GW pussies: Is it just me or does anyone else think that a winter trip to Bali is a bit of a boondoggle?

Anti-denier pussies: On CA, you've got Anthony idiot looking at a SF airport sensor with a record of climbing temp saying that it's a clear case of UHI. It's like he's too butt-dumb to EVEN CONSIDER a different explanation. That it actually got hotter. Any sensor with a rising temp MUST be biased. Also, he's got an area that is on the bay and surrounded on two sides by WATER! But no comment on that.

When I see how butt-stupid the denialists are it makes me think that maybe AGW is correct. If that's the best they can bring. Actually what I'd like to do is take both groups, strip them, throw them in a bag with crisco and mollasess, shake it up a bit...and just put it on the stove.
