Surprising No One...

The Committee’s 16-month investigation reveals a systematic White House effort to censor climate scientists by controlling their access to the press and editing testimony to Congress. The White House was particularly active in stifling discussions of the link between increased hurricane intensity and global warming. The White House also sought to minimize the significance and certainty of climate change by extensively editing government climate change reports. Other actions taken by the White House involved editing EPA legal opinions and op-eds on climate change.

The above links to the full report of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Here is the short version.

H/t to an anon from today's first post. Is it just me or am I getting a better quality of anon these days?

I've sent it to government people who might be interested in it it they don't already know, and it sure isn't the CONS.

Scientists threatened for 'climate denial'

By Tom Harper, Sunday Telegraph
Last Updated: 12:24am GMT 11/03/2007

Scientists who questioned mankind's impact on climate change have received death threats and claim to have been shunned by the scientific community.

They say the debate on global warming has been "hijacked" by a powerful alliance of politicians, scientists and environmentalists who have stifled all questioning about the true environmental impact of carbon dioxide emissions.

Timothy Ball, a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg in Canada, has received five deaths threats by email since raising concerns about the degree to which man was affecting climate change.

One of the emails warned that, if he continued to speak out, he would not live to see further global warming.

"Western governments have pumped billions of dollars into careers and institutes and they feel threatened," said the professor.

"I can tolerate being called a sceptic because all scientists should be sceptics, but then they started calling us deniers, with all the connotations of the Holocaust. That is an obscenity. It has got really nasty and personal."

Last week, Professor Ball appeared in The Great Global Warming Swindle, a Channel 4 documentary in which several scientists claimed the theory of man-made global warming had become a "religion", forcing alternative explanations to be ignored.

Richard Lindzen, the professor of Atmospheric Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology - who also appeared on the documentary - recently claimed: "Scientists who dissent from the alarmism have seen their funds disappear, their work derided, and themselves labelled as industry stooges.

"Consequently, lies about climate change gain credence even when they fly in the face of the science."

Dr Myles Allen, from Oxford University, agreed. He said: "The Green movement has hijacked the issue of climate change. It is ludicrous to suggest the only way to deal with the problem is to start micro managing everyone, which is what environmentalists seem to want to do."

Nigel Calder, a former editor of New Scientist, said: "Governments are trying to achieve unanimity by stifling any scientist who disagrees. Einstein could not have got funding under the present system."

Cameron considers tax hikes on air travel

Harsh new taxes on air travel, including a strict personal flight "allowance", will be unveiled by the Conservatives tomorrow as part of a plan that would penalise business travellers, holidaymakers and the tourist industry.

The proposals, to be disclosed by George Osborne, the shadow chancellor, include levying VAT or fuel duty on domestic flights for the first time as part of a radical plan to tackle global warming.

The Conservatives will also suggest - most controversially of all - rationing individuals to as little as a single short-haul flight each year; any further journeys would attract progressively higher taxes, a leaked document entitled Greener Skies suggests.

The Tories' radical green taxes form one of the most ambitious programmes ever put forward by a mainstream political party. But they sparked an immediate war with Labour last night, while the travel industry branded them a "tax on fun".

Three death threats by e-mail? If you count the "nigerian hitman" email, I've probably recieved that many myself.

The science is not in - The propoganda is. UN has to fix numbers, use discredited climate models - the famous hockey stick and adds unproven information after the Un scientists signed off on their last report. Gore lies to the world - rising water levels, polar bears drowning... And all you Libs cheer. Why can you supposedly "tolerant" Liberals deny anybody else's opinion and facts. Oh yeah I know - Truth Deniers. What a joke. Grow up. This is what makes people question your sincerity."We are tolerant of all ideas...as long as you agree with us".

The last people on earth who should be lecturing anybody on saving the climate is LPOC. They had 8 years to implement a program and help the enviornment but all they did was talk. 6.5 BILLION tax dollars down the drain and nothing to show for it. Even Bush had a better record than the Liberals. LOL. That must have hurt. I know "Its hard to set priorities" or so your leader says.

Look at the facts, not the hype.
