About Those 60 German Scientists

...who wrote that open letter denouncing the science behind AGW to Chancellor Angela Merkel who has, incidentally, been showing alot of cleavage lately.

Well,

In fact, if i do a quick search on the list on the word "klima", only one name can be found, being Prof. Dr. Horst Malberg Universitätsprofessor (A.D.) für Meteorologie und Klimatologie. One. That's all.

And of course another name on the list is the infamous Ernst Beck (a high-school teacher),
whose methodology can be used to demonstrate both that C02 levels have fluctuated wildly over the course of the last century and a half, and that the value of π (Pi) has fluctuated wildly over the course of the last two millennium.

Jules Jules' klimaatblog further notes that the outfit behind this open letter, EIKE (Europäisches Institut für Klima und Energie) appears to be the German franchise of the International Climate Science Coalition, a denialist group headed up by Canada's own Tom Harris. If you look at their (EIKE's) "scientific council", you see all the usual suspects: Carter, Courtney, and rounded out with one dead guy--Marcel Leroux.

But the german anti-AGW rhetoric does have some features of its own, it seems.
One of the commenters calls Merkel a commie AND reveals the Nazis origins of ecology --
"Have you ever asked for the history of all the ecologigal ideas and movement? The pre-WWII-times autarkic energy production was driven mostly under Hitler and his Nazis. They installed bio fuel research and used it strongly, they installed biogas reactors in the concentration camp Auschwitz, they started the first wind power firms in Thuringia etc. It's Green-Brown Nazi ideology from it's beginning, trying to come over by non-democratic but tyrannic governmental methods. The Green Movement is a fascistic one and was installed in US in the 60s from Hitlers supporters. From there it comes to Europe in the 70s."

Meddy,

You don't hear as much of that here, but the "Nazis were enviros" thing does come up occasionally. The eviros are eugenicists comes up a fair bit.

Actually, I thought that's what Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Fascism was all about. He'd agree whole heartedly with that comment over at Jules-Klimaat.

It's all just the "6 degrees of Hitler" game that the rest of us think is a joke but others take very seriously, although not seriously enough when it comes to most of the Right's "one degree of Hitler."

My personal favourite -- "Environmentalists love the creation more than the Creator"
