Tough On Crime, Tough On The Criminal Justice System

Put more people in jail for longer; pay the jailer less. And watch the sparks fly, I suppose.

Came across this yesterday.

"Spending twice as much on prisons as higher education should prompt some soul searching."

Keep it up,Cons, it's worked so well for the neighbours.

Hell, we just have to show how well any of this tough on crime bullshit is working out in the US to prove it's a goddamned waste of taxpayer dollars.

You would have thought there was no need after almost a decade of Liberal justice. I was sure that all that talk about finding root causes and rehabilitation was enough to stop crime. Who could have guessed that the Toronto gun ban only would result in another record number of shootings.

Fact fail. Why do you idiots even bother?

Everyone knows Toronto's crime rate is among the lowest in North America relative to other large cities, and it's been decreasing since 1998, as has the national rate.

Go read a book dumbass.

ridenrain you just keep embarrassing yourself with ever turd you leave on these blogs. Go look through statscan reports to see how full of shit you are.

Then look at the US where record numbers are being spent on jails (while cutting pay to the guards - there is a nightmare waiting to happen), over 1% of the population is in jail, and yet crime isn't going down at all. Here's the Reformatory justice plan 10 years from now...

More than one in 100 adults in the United States is in jail or prison, an all-time high that is costing state governments nearly $50 billion a year and the federal government $5 billion more, according to a report released yesterday.

I thought conservatives were supposed to be about saving taxpayers money? You can start by recognizing a bad idea when you see it.

Spin it all you like but the facts are very clear:
"
The simple, inescapable truth is that most firearms crimes being committed in Ontario are not being committed with legal guns, so no ban on legal guns -- whether handguns or shotguns and rifles -- is going to have any impact on crime rates.

Most gun crimes are not being committed by gun owners licensed under Ottawa's registry scheme. So no campaign to make licensed owners surrender their firearms in a mass confiscation is going to have any impact either.

Indeed, from a statistical point of view, a ban on handguns would be the least likely ban to have any appreciable effect.

The Liberals had almost a decade of majorities and surplus to solve the crime problem and it's only got worst. It's time to admit the mistakes and try something else.

So how is that Toronto gun ban working out for you? From what I can see, the gun homicide rate is actually going up when the mayor was telling you that it would magicaly vanish. Even the registry has not shown the dramatic reduction in handgun homicide they were expecting.
Could be time to try something else or has ideology blinded you?

I'm impressed, the wrongness in that comment is just incredible. Helpful advice: the point of trolling isn't to make yourself look stupid.

I could not help but notice you changed the topic.

Crime rates are falling. Harper is putting all his effort into punishment rather than prevention despite the fact punishment has been proven not to deter crime. Harper's plan will cost taxpayers billions of dollars with absolutely no return.

There are facts that scare you, because these are facts that prove Harper is a cheap panderer and a PM who puts his own interests before those of Canadians, and is not afraid to spend our money in order to buy himself a little political capital.

That is why you ignore these facts and change the topic to something irrelevant.
