Just a Great Blue. Impressive beast, but not rare. They are very shy, and it is unusual that it would let me get this close. Might be the weekend heat made it dozy. Meanwhile, I've figured out a few basic tricks in Paint. Here's a couple of nicer shots of that immature Night Heron that I took a couple of days ago.
Now that's a nice looking beasty.

Just curious BCL, are you a serious birdwatcher? If you are, what got you into it? And what type of camera setup are you using to take your photos?
My wife and I always try to walk the trails or ponds or nature preserves around the GTA or wherever we wind up, and I always pack a camera. Nothing special. Just a Canon powershot. I like to know what it is I'm seeing, and I have a number of the standard books on birds/bugs. But I don't know about "serious". To me that means crouching behind a blind all day.
Good stuff. Using a compact camera you do really well getting up close.
