Tips on Beating Down the Conservative Menace
I love the ham-fisted imagery. A hand stamped with "LIBERAL CAUCUS" to make sure the Conservative rubes understand that it's the li-be-ral cau-cus itself that's poking holes in the carbon tax file.Get it, rubes? GET IT?At least Harper understands, along with the rest of us, that you have to communicate with rank-and-file Conservatives the way you would with not-too-bright children.
To be fair, I think the artist was going for something other than bullet holes originally. We're critiquing the visual and advertising design skills of a political party. I wish that were a silly thing to do. But, I think far from being peripheral to politics, this sort of vapid, meaningless schlock is integral to how the party works. It's like our country is being run by a PR firm.By the way, who is the CPC's PR firm?
I think a graphic artist would have to be absolutely stupid to look at the top work creation and NOT think it was meant to represent bullet holes.Visually the ? marks don't even make sense unless that was the intent. Direct reference to"Who Shot JR?" for those old enough to remember the "golden" 80s. (ha ; )
Took them long enough. I found a funny going through the new site.
The artist might well acknowledge that they look like bullet holes and yet be unable to make them look more like holes in an argument. ;-) They do look sort of like bullet holes, but they look even more like a couple of poorly formed beizer curves, scaled and rotated a bunch of times, and Mision Acccomplisheded.Took them long enough? You gotta give credit where credit is due, they've been churning out puerile pap like mad. Seems like every week I'm getting a brand new idiotically false dichotomy in my mailbox, complete with artwork and new layout. Do you remember those first ones, where the fold and cut lines didn't make any sense? They've been working HARD, considering their level of ineptitude and the work load on them.I did miss the Dallas reference, tho, so what do I know.
By the way, who is the CPC's PR firm? The same one that came up with the giant stuffed dinosaurs (that ended up looking like characters from The Flinstones) at the opening ceremonies of the Calgary Olympics, I think.I don't know. It's astonishingly unprofessional/unstylish, at any rate. Kind of like what an urban marketing professional might think would appeal to rubes. I don't know why Conservative supporters don't feel insulted by it.
Haven't you noticed how crappy their redesign of the government websites is? Hey, these guys cut funding to real artists because they say artists should go out and earn money, but they are too cheap and ignorant to hire an artist themselves.
How does it go again? Oh yeah! A tax is a tax is a tax. By one of the least eloquent speakers Canada has ever been subjected to.
