On behalf of the Prime Minister, I would like to thank you for your e-mail regarding human rights commissions at the federal and provincial level. Please be assured that your comments are appreciated and have been carefully reviewed.

As the Commission operates at arm's length, the federal government respects the Commission's independence and does not interfere in its normal course of operations. For more information about the operations of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, we would encourage you to visit the Commission's Web site...
They're shocked and appalled over at FreeD. The government has flipped them the bird and, come next election, they'll be looking for a party even further to the right than the CPoC. Won't be easy to find; even Alberta's Wildrose Alliance has embraced the status quo with respect to HRCs.
Meanwhile, Ezra is doing a comprehensive survey of Human Rights Inquisitors and finding that the Alberta commission is Chock-a-block full of Tories!!! Since these are patronage appointments, I guess that makes sense in Alberta, right? And, horror or horrors...some even have legal training, although apparently not the appropriate legal training, according to Ezra.
(This from a guy who thinks we operate under U.S. copyright laws. It's called fair dealing up here in the frozen tundra, Ez, not fair comment.)

So off-topic, H. We're talking about the speechies in this post.
Lots of wingutty goodness here. The grandiosity of the Freedom Minions, the fact that Ezra "Publisher and Lawyer" Levant doesn't understand Canadian copyright law...
It really doesn't help the free speech warriors to wallow in a cesspit of delusion and ignorance all the time. Why entrust the protection of freedom of expression to people for whom it serves no purpose?
Maybe Parliament should table a motion to affirm that Canadians have the right to be stupid. Perhaps that'll calm the speechies down.
Oh God, you know it's going to be some pointless whiney leftard rant when it begins with "I'm shocked and appalled".
If you really value free speech, let's see you NOT edit this comment out.
Government politely ignores crazy fringe group! Film at 11!
It is actually kind of adorable that they seem to have been expecting some sort of actual result. (Then again, this is Harper with a MINORITY gov't...)

Jesus, these righties and their reading comprehension. Can't they pry their eyes away from the hentai for two seconds and focus?
I am sorry to have to resort to profanity, but Ezra Levant is a fucking idiot.
Just where does he think judges come from? Is he under some stupid delusion that only family lawyers become family court judges, criminal lawyers criminal court judges, and so on?
If so, then he is clearly not a courtroom lawyer. If he actually knwe what he was talking about, he would know that all Queen's Bench judges can sit on any QB trial, be it family, criminal or civil, and that matters of the constitution and human rights may be relevant with respect to any court matter, and therefore before any judge .
The same is true of any level of court, in any province.
So one wonders why he thinks HRC's should be different. Legal training is legal training.
I know I have mentioned this in the past, but I happen to know Ezra articled to a lawyer who practiced criminal and family law. By his own standards clearly he is not qualified to comment on the HRC decisions.
