In Search Of The Fox North Superstars

In response to my argument that Conservative media talent in this nation consists of a bunch of puffy, middle age white guys, Alison has suggested that Fox North might hire Conservababe Rachel Marsden.

Well...that might work, but then Fox North could never get Ezra to stop masturbating.

Another possible downside: Rachel's also apparently got a knack for career self-immolation, and a mouth like a sailor.

Maybe Fox doesn't need wet t-shirts to survive.

According to CBC website poll:

Would you watch a Fox News-like channel? Take our poll.

Thank you for voting!

Yes 72% (2,947 votes)
No 28% (1,141 votes)

Total Votes: 4,088

R. G. Harvie said...

In fairness.. I skewed the vote by voting "yes". Otherwise it would only been 2,946 positive votes :)

Anyone can FREEP a poll, RG. FreeD was on that since yesterday night.

Jay said...

Funny. I saw a poll yesterday putting it 20% yes and 80% no. I think it is fairly obvious that the poll RG is referring to is freeped. Look at the support for the conservative party and compare to the polls for a fox news north.

Duh.

Jay said...

Also we know conservatives lurk around and stalk any media they claim is biased against lies, I mean conservative viewpoints. CBC and thestar seem robe the main target of paid con trolls, conservative illiterates and freepers.

Jay said...

Robe = to be

Damn iPhone spellcheck.

R. G. Harvie said...

..uh yeah, and rumours of NDP/Liberal merger were created by the Conservatives too.

Duh.

Anyway, my post was more tongue in cheek - I'm pretty aware of the value of web polls..lol..

But you have a good day!

Far more interesting than a poll would be Fox News' ratings in Canada compared to CBCNN, CTV Newsnet, CNN, MSNBC, BNN, CNBC and BBC World.

I also find it interesting that during all those years that the Aspers controlled CanWest Global and were flush with borrowed money, in addition to having far better infrastructure in place, they never tried to do this.

FreeD always thinks they represent multitudes, but every time they decide to punish the Conservative by throwing the full weight of their support behind some fringe party they show exactly how minimal their influence is.

Jim said...

Hey, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

At least it won't cost us $1.2B a year.

Reality Bites said...

Oh it will cost us all right. If it launches it will be bundled with the other news networks and we'll be paying for it whether we watch it or not.

Every channel you receive, you're paying for through taxes and cable/satellite fees, quite apart from the advertising revenue they get if you actually watch it.

James Bowie said...

You talk about gay porn and Ezra Levant masturbating far too much for my taste.

Gene Rayburn said...

Jim, you pay very little for the CBC as an individual and you get your money's worth watching Hockey Night in Canada.

It's a national public broadcaster which means it isnt tailor made for you. Grow up and dont be so stupidly selfish.

Believe me, I dont want to pay for the garbage you like in my cable bill but I do.

To each their own Jim.

Another possible downside: Rachel's also apparently got a knack for career self-immolation, and a mouth like a sailor.

Possible upside, Rachel Marsden has an affair with one of her fellow pundits and ends up either denouncing him in public (see Tony Backhurst) or selling the guy's stuff on e-bay (see Jimmy Wales).

At least it won't cost us $1.2B a year.

What's that, the cost of one Conservative run G20 conference?

Jim said...

Gene, how very nice of you to justify for me my contribution towards the CBC, but in my opinion, even one cent is too much.

Canada is not a communist country (yet) and does not require a subsidized TV network.

As an aside, I am not a hockey fan, so my ROI from the CBC is nil.

If cutting funding to the CBC to retain even pennies of my tax dollars is stupidly selfish, then I am guilty as charged.

As for what I enjoy watching, it certainly is not BCL's gay porn channels, but like you said, to each their own.

Funny you would blast your condescending screed at me then end it with that line.

Hypocrite much?

Jim said...

Gee, what an original comeback sharon...NOT.

Unlike a howler monkey that constantly tries to fling feces, hoping some will stick, I will wait for Kevin Page's report on the costs of the summits before I get me back up. Early reposrt are that the spending is inline.

Anyway, keep howling...monkey.

sharonapple88 said...

Gee, what an original comeback sharon...NOT.

Wow, how original and new yourself?... not.

Doesn't change the fact that the costs for the G20 costs are the same as the one you quoted for the G20. And we're going to get less from the G20 that we do from the CBC.

Early reposrt are that the spending is inline.

Okay, link one of these reports. (Conservative written reports do not count.)

Hey Jim... I personally don't like that my tax dollars are being spent on people like you being paid to spread Harper's propaganda over the internet.

I wouldn't mind watching Rachel Marsden. It's listening to her that I can't stand.

Hypocritcal moi? Hardly.

The UK is not a communist country yet they have a national public broadcaster. Australia and New Zealand as well.

It must be real hard to live life when you are so stupid Jim. Not to mention your proclivity for spazzouts.

Heh, looks like I was right about the free speech thingy.

Coward.

What do you people actually stand for anyway? I can go to any party website in Canada and find a link to some form of policy/platform...the LPC site?
NOTHING!

Have you tried this page.

Google's your friend.

Well, if you knew how much work it was for me, why would you delete what I wrote?

Unlike most of you, I did not hurl personal insults. Is it that the truth is too painful to you?

And hey sharon, thanks for pointing me to the LPC constitution and a bunch of ancient policy resolutions that were never adopted, but that is not what I am talking about.

But I suspect you know that.

Georg Elser said...

Rachel Marsden would be a great hire. They could have a regular "Who am I stalking this week" segment and if the channel wants to expand into drama she could star in a made-for-TV remake of Fatal Attraction.

2009 is ancient? Whatever.

But hey, it's what you requested:

Jim - you do realize other stations, like CTV, get subsidies don't you? That would be taxpayer subsidies.

This was set out by Andrew Coyne during the fiasco of having Elizabeth May in the debates

You really need to get educated, and by that I mean, don't believe every BS line Harper throws you

"It's a national public broadcaster which means it isnt tailor made for you." - Gene Rayburn

CBC is tailor-made for Toronto. Toronto telling Torontonians their stories. Over and over and over again.

The CBC is "national" in the sense that their signal is national, little more.

As to the hope that it might ever be a broadcaster that reflects the diversity Canadians actually do experience, forget about it.

You know, you did call me a howler monkey, Gene a hypocrite, and Big a coward.

But hey, stay classy Jim.

Gene Rayburn said...

"Unlike most of you, I did not hurl personal insults. Is it that the truth is too painful to you?"

Sure Jim. Im sure a quick search of your many spazzouts would prove that wrong.

Isn't that pathetic attempt to look noble wearing thin Jim? Considering your proclivity to wig out?

Gene Rayburn said...

"CBC is tailor-made for Toronto. Toronto telling Torontonians their stories. Over and over and over again."

Bullshit Paul, just you feel that way and maybe the people in your immediate vicinity does not make it true.

Plenty of people watch the CBC across Canada every day. They do monitor viewer ratings.

Duh!!!

Jim said...

Yes Sandi, I do realize that they receive subsidies. I also understand that grants are given from TeleFilm and a host of provincial agencies to produce absolute crap.

If we are going to start a discussion about all the things we think should or shouldn't be government funded, this could prove to be a long discussion.

The CBC receives $1.2B a year, plus all the revenue they get through advertising to produce mostly, crap.

Let them go it alone and pay their own freight as a private broadcaster. That is my opinion, and I am entitled to it.

Funny that New Zealand was mentioned...did you know that they also had universal firearms registration and abandoned it after a few years as being ineffective and hugely expensive?

As for my education, it is just fine thanks. And trust me, I do not take CPC speak as gospel.

Funny that BCL would make a comment about my intelligence...I saw him and his chins on the Coren show. He is certainly no rocket scientist.

In fact, after that performance, I would have considered changing the name of this blog to Big City Lib Strikes Out.

Jim said...

I meant that there were no personal insults in the post that BCL deleted.

As for the rest, guilty. I will give what I get...sadly most of you are no challenge.

Ah yeah an attempt to change the subject to Jim's favourite straw man and spazzout topic.

My "immediate vicinity"? You mean western Canada? LOL.

The CBC does some things exceptionally well, but representing the diversity that is truly Canada is not one of them.

Well they do a much better job than CTV or Canwest/Global ...that is unless you think buying up American culture and re-broadcasting over our airwaves represents Canada's diversity?

Gene Rayburn said...

Hey Paul,

I'm in Western Canada too. Not all of us share your opinion. Just because people comply to your windbaggedness doesn't mean they agree. It means their tired of hearing your ranting.

Just because the CBC isn't the angry old man with nothing better to do network doesn't mean it doesn't represent Canadians. It just doesn't exclusively represent you.

Or are you going to have a problem with me being from the wrong part of western Canada now?

Lenny said...

Gene,
When folks like Dumstrum say "Western Canada" they're talking about that flat grassy area between the Rockies and the western shore of Hudson Bay.

I looked up Rachel's bio with a quaint little line following her academic accomplishments (getting the GG's medal is pretty good) with this:

The closest she ever wants to get to academia again is the local Starbucks.

Hardy har har. It is very fashionable to be anti-intellectual these days despite being academically accomplished. It sounds like Canada's Gretchen Carlson.

Jim: "As for my education, it is just fine thanks. And trust me, I do not take CPC speak as gospel."

Was your education publicly funded?

Paul S said...

Well they (CBC) do a much better job than CTV or Canwest/Global. . .

Neither are a public broadcaster.

If public health care only offered full health services to 50% of the Canadian population, there would be an uproar.

But, a public broadcaster that caters to only 50% of the Canadian population is somehow acceptable.

Again, I don't want to shut down or cut off funding to the CBC because some of its programming is priceless.

...that is unless you think buying up American culture and re-broadcasting over our airwaves represents Canada's diversity? - T of KW

Well we surely don't need more programming like Just For Laughs Gags on the Mother Corp., now do we?

Gene Rayburn said...

"But, a public broadcaster that caters to only 50% of the Canadian population is somehow acceptable."

Where are you getting that number? Is this an actual studied demographic or a madeup number to suit your argument?

No proof means its just hot air.

Jim:

I'm not sure what you are asking? Of course my 1-12 was publicly funded.

Past that, no. Any courses I have taken were paid by myself or my employer.

I should admit that I am a qualified tradesperson in my choice of craft.

Do you want to make a point?

Gene Rayburn said...

is your choice of craft bullshit? If so then you need to go back to school to learn how to do it right or at least take the training courses offered to you at CPC headquarters.

13 years of education on the taxpayers' dime and you still aren't educated. Sad Jim, sad.
