Looks Like There IS An International Climate Conspiracy

...for it looks like CRU is not the only institution targetted by criminals allied with the denialist community: attempts were made to steal documents and computer files from U-of-T as well:

An alleged series of attempted security breaches at the University of Victoria in the run-up to next week's Copenhagen summit on climate change is evidence of a larger effort to discredit climate science, says a renowned B.C. researcher.

Andrew Weaver, a University of Victoria scientist and key contributor to the Nobel prize-winning work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, says there have been a number of attempted breaches in recent months, including two successful break-ins at his campus office in which a dead computer was stolen and papers were rummaged through.

It would sure be nice--and its interesting that its the NP picked up on this story--if the media concentrated a little more on the fact that they are being shopped material by crooks rather than picking over emails they don't understand the meaning of and freely improvising based on what they think they see behind the words.

So now you're shooting the messenger when the message is the felon.

Yeah, those guys BNEing the lab were really freedom fighters.

You should be more concerned with what they found not who found it.

And you want Harper to go to Copenhagen and pledge billions of our tax dollars to a cause who's main scientist has resigned and who's questionable email exchanges with his fellow thugs highlight many many potential problems with their data?

"a cause who's (sic) main scientist has resigned" There are two or three lies in just this phrase.

Very lame.

Hope you'll be blogging the Copenhagen / Hopenchangen Gong Show.

It will be the funniest thing since Rex Murphy ripped Climate Scientology a new one last night.

Does it really? Bring one up. I'd love to see exactly where they went wrong. There was an editorial in Nature about the CRU hack that comes out against the conspiracy theories. A scientific historian who had a different take on what the e-mails revealed.

Weart: "The theft and use of the emails does reveal something interesting about the social context. It's a symptom of something entirely new in the history of science: Aside from crackpots who complain that a conspiracy is suppressing their personal discoveries, we've never before seen a set of people accuse an entire community of scientists of deliberate deception and other professional malfeasance."

I, for one, would definitely shoot the messenger. Not so much for the theft and attempted thefts but for so distorting the stolen property to feed the skepticism of the wilfully gullible and dim minded such as Prairie Kid.

I know it's winter on the prairie but... Does he really believe a hoax perpetrated on the scale his feeders allege could ever be concealed? Does he really believe the folks who pay his feeders, Big Oil and Big Coal, would let something like that go unchallenged? These companies potentially have hundreds of billions of dollars at stake.

Does Prairie Kid think so little of his little man Harper that he believes Steve would let himself - and the right's Canada - be swayed by a hoax? Did he enjoy seeing "more than the Almighty Buck" kowtow and kiss Chinese Communist butt?

"UN to probe climate email leak" - G&M

The UN IPCC is going to investigate Climategate? That would be the same as the Liberal Party investigating Adscam.

I don't know why they aren't more seized by the criminality. Even the run-of-the-mill denier low-life around here sound like they have criminal records.

The real story here is, of course, just how scientifically illiterate the sceptic community is. It's almost embarrassing to watch. Almost.

The Sierra Club has asked the RCMP and the Calgary Police for a criminal investigation into websites which have posted the stolen emails, such as Friends of Science.

What's ridiculous is that these Deniers lie and steal, and are still admired by gullible people like Prairie Kid. Then others come along with Small Dead Animals' buzzwords about Copenhagen (which coincidentally is just after the release of the stolen emails, golly gee what 'luck'), and they have the gall to accuse *scientists* of a "conspiracy". If I wasn't already intimately familiar with the great intellectual void/blindness gracing most Small Dead Animals followers, I'd be more angry with them than I am right now. Pity is a word that crosses my mind, but it's dangerous to pity people so malicious.

They're not deserving of pity. Most of them know better, even if they aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.

On the road to Copenhopeless. Jim Hansen calls it "a farce". Al Gore chickens out, cancels $1200/plate lecture. Even the Copenhagen hookers are upset. Can it get worse?

Denmark rife with CO2 fraud. Here is a microcosm of what we can expect from the IPCC's vision of world climate governance and global cap 'n trade? Scamorama!

"Denmark is the centre of a comprehensive tax scam involving CO2 quotas, in which the cheats exploit a so-called ‘VAT carrousel’, reports Ekstra Bladet newspaper.

Police and authorities in several European countries are investigating scams worth billions of kroner, which all originate in the Danish quota register. The CO2 quotas are traded in other EU countries."- Copenhagen Post

Let's just start over again. That's what the UK Met Office seems to be saying:

"The Met Office plans to re-examine 160 years of temperature data after admitting that public confidence in the science on man-made global warming has been shattered by leaked e-mails.

The new analysis of the data will take three years, meaning that the Met Office will not be able to state with absolute confidence the extent of the warming trend until the end of 2012.

The Met Office database is one of three main sources of temperature data analysis on which the UN’s main climate change science body relies for its assessment that global warming is a serious danger to the world. This assessment is the basis for next week’s climate change talks in Copenhagen aimed at cutting CO2 emissions.

The Government is attempting to stop the Met Office from carrying out the re-examination, arguing that it would be seized upon by climate change sceptics." - Ben Webster, The Times Online

Actually, this is what the UK Met office is saying.

1. They're asking 188 countries if they can release data.

2. They intended to release the information before Climate gate.

3. They deny it would take up to three years to release the data.

More on the issue here.

So basically, they're going to try and release the raw data that every denier wants. You could run your own models and create your own graphs. Sheesh... what will it take to make you happy?

Yes, it's sad that people are getting off by stealing the VAT. Carbon credits aren't the only thing criminals have done this to. According to this article, mobile phones and computer chips were also frauded with respects to the VAT. Would you argue that we should destroy the market for microchips and cell phones because of VAT fraud? Does that make any sense?

And it seems as though it's the lack of regulations than the scary one-world government at work since people are exploiting loopholes and lax standards.

Miffed this one up.

3. It wouldn't take three years to re-examine the data.

Yes, a bit odd. The Times story doesn't jibe with the Met's release. Just checked and the story is still on their site with no updates. The Times is usually pretty reliable and probably more in the warmer camp, editorially speaking.

The UN run Iraqi oil for food program was rife with corruption as I recall. Enron, before its collapse was salivating at the prospect of getting into carbon trading. Just another play thing for the crooks and bureaucrats.

Ignoramus says:

The IPCC has nothing to do with cap and trade or any mitigation mechanism.

"Let's just start over again. That's what the UK Met Office seems to be saying"

Now I see your problem - you haven't a clue what words mean when they're assembled together into sentences and paragraphs.

There appears to be a correction at the Daily Mail.

One link to it notes the article opens with: "The Met Office is to re-examine 60 years of climate data in an effort to ensure the accuracy of historical records used to gauge the extent of global warming. The three-year review comes after leaked emails from within the..."

But when you click onto the story itself there's no mention of the review taking three years.

Weird.

Anyway, another press release about about the situation. Data and computer codes are going to be out.
