The Shock And Awe Is Just Getting Started

As a coalition supporter, I am already feeling the pressure from the vaunted Tory spin machine.

BCL, do you think the coalition will hold together over the next month?

Paul, if the Libs can figure a way to "install" another leader by the new year without pissing off too many people in the party, then yes, because they won't be worried (as much) about going to a snap election. If not...

So it's six weeks of Conservative attack ads, wedge politics, antagonizing Quebec and keeping Alberta pissed, and trying to convince a few Liberals to cross the floor.

Happy fucking holidays, eh?

Rachel Maddow has just compared Canada a banana republic because of what Harper just pulled.

To paraphrase what she said, "So in the 21th century, the way to stay in power in Canada is to ask the queen of England to banish your enemies?"

Yay! The Americans talked about us on T.V. today!!!!

Fine, let the Conservatives have their time out, the Liberals need to detail how we would respond to the crisis. Conservative partisans on Facebook and blogs seem to be adopting the "let them eat cake", stimulus-is-communism Hoover reaction to this. Let them wear it. They want to govern, let them face the consequences.

As an aside, I wonder if the people of Israel and Germany realize they don't live in democracies according to Conservatives and their supporters. Both countries are governed by coalitions negotiated not before, but AFTER their respective elections. Huh, go figure. Don't believe me, go check out:

I heard many Conservatives say, off the record, that Harper is finished.

Oh oh. Now Bob Rae is going to criss cross the country attempting to sell the coalition to Canadians.

Why are the Liberals doing this? Don't they realize there is nothing, and I mean nothing, for them to gain from this coalition?

Gee, Paul, Maybe were doing this for CANADA?

Unknown said...

Canada? You're sure about that?

First, the Liberals are barely a national party anymore, second, Canadian opinion is strongly against the coalition.

Paul S: Canadian opinion is strongly against the Coalition.

Yes, today, after a couple of polls that used misleading or inflammatory questions, which we are beginning to find out. (Go up a couple of posts from this one, see the comments.)

As the enormity of what Harper has just done sinks in, and shitty economic news keeps coming down the pike, and people ask what the government is doing about it -- oh, it's taking a holiday -- the reaction will be WTF?!!

Cherish those numbers, Paul, because you won't see their like again.
