Globe And Mail In Trouble Too

Layoffs and price hikes.

Imagine how these newspapers could improve their finances if they just got rid of the pundits and the Lifestyle and Sports sections. Sadly, they'll do the exact opposite; when they pare down, those elements will be the last ones to go.

Marcus Gee, Christie Blatchford, Norman Spector - maybe the Globe and a case of National Post disease. They've been off chasing NP readers so long that a lot of moderates just got fed up with them. Now they figure the answer is to crank up their prices by 50-cents a day, weekdays? That's a sure sign of troubles.

This is beginning to remind me of the Canadian Airlines/Air Canada showdown at the OK Corral. That ruined what had been two perfectly good airlines.
