The Montana Senate race has gone Democrat, with Jon Tester beating Republican Conrad Burns by about 4,000 votes. This insures the Dems at least a 50/50 split in the Senate. So where Dems and Republicans are deadlocked, Vice President Cheney steps in to break the tie. However, if the last time a 50/50 split occurred is any indication, the Dems will be given an equal number of bodies on all committees and equal funding.
Not only that, there is still the Virginia race to decide, where Democrat James Webb is up by 7,000 votes out of 2.3 million cast. This will probably go to a recount.
