However, two 5-foot long crocodiles and two 8-foot pythons kept in a holding pen near the gift shop may have perished in the fire, which destroyed the gift shop and giant, concrete gator head that served as the park entrance. The fire took several hours to bring under control, due to the fact that Gatorland is filled with...wait for it...hundreds of big gators, which makes it a difficult environment for emergency crews to work in.
Established in 1949, Gatorland is one of Florida's oldest theme parks, and one of the places I really want to go before I die. A work-buddy told me about it and for many years brought me Gatorland t-shirts back from her annual trips South. The picture to the left is from the park's "jumparoo" show. Apparently they are feeding this fellow a chicken.
