Today, Dr. Patrick Michaels of The CATO Institute (see http://www.cato. org/people/ patrick-michaels) called me to ask if I could distribute the attached proposed newspaper ad to you in the hopes of obtaining your endorsement for inclusion in a list after the letter. Dr. Michael tells me the text of the open letter is essentially fixed and only cosmetic changes will follow at this point.
Please let me know if you will allow CATO to include your name and affiliation on this crucially important public appeal to President Obama. Dr. Michaels informs me that, due to space-limitations it may not be feasible to include everyone’s endorsement but he hopes to get as many supporters as possible for this effort, regardless.
If they get a sufficient number of highly qualified endorsers, CATO plan to arrange that the attached open letter is published in newspapers this coming week, so we hope to hear whether or not you will allow your name to be included in the endorser list as soon as possible.
