Bank Cards Compromised Canada-wide?
Interesting. My wife's problem seems to have been the tip of something much larger. I've met three people today who've received the same message from banks and police in the past 24 hours, one that uses the same mall as we do (Parkway Mall). Also, the manager of the Parkway TD was out front yesterday telling people not to use any of their ATMs, as they had all been compromised.

This happens fairly frequently. When it happened to me my bank told me that they put tiny card readers into the card slot that you'd never notice, plus a small camera to record you entering your PIN. The person at my bank told me she'd caught someone doing it to their own machine.
I've had 3 or 4 cases of debit or credit card fraud in the last year, all without me ever losing a card.
I received a chip debit card in the mail yesterday. Some of my credit cards have switched over already. It will be interesting to see if this reduces fraud significantly or not. Certainly the problem is rampant.
I am impressed, however, with how quickly they catch it. None of the times it's happened to me have I had a chance to notice something wrong before they contacted me.
Interesting. The fact that the bank machines themselves appear compromised suggests a network infiltration, rather than compromised hardware. Banks are rather hesitant about telling their customers about the former.
That's just me though; I'm eagerly awaiting the downfall of civilisation at the hands of all kinds of cyber-fraud, not to mention the unintended consequences flowing from the benign actions of poorly-designed automated systems...the comeuppance obnoxious computer engineers I've detested since grad school so richly deserve ;)
I'm also told there was a news item on this last night, but missed it.
A have had my bank card "compromised" twice recently over a 3 week period here in London, ON area. Both times it would appear were due to debit purchases at retail outlets.
(There has been a lot of this in this area - including Stratford, St. Marys and Sarnia - during the past number of weeks.)
The first time, the bank noticed a possible problem and I had to get a new card. The second time, I noticed strange activity on my account and since the employee at the bank figured I couldn't have used my card in London and in Valcartier QC within 1 hour of each other, they gave me back my $500. and I had to get another new bank card. Fun times!
The item mentioned desperate nannies forced into servitude by their liberal masters who turned to a life of bank card fraud to survive.
After BCL has cheerfully accommodated your trolling lo these many years, the least you could have done is expressed some sympathy for this unfortunate event instead of libelling people, you intellectual and moral imbecile.

oh what happened to that bank? what is their action? I always their and seeing their employee wsearing Tuxedos and formal wear.
