Rumor: Heritage Canada Prepared Talking Points On Wafergate

Sources tell me that Canadian Heritage's protocol officers, perhaps having seen a live feed of the event, or witnessing it in person, were preparing talking points re "where did the wafer go?" on the very day of the LeBlanc funeral. If so, the Tories saw they had a problem even before the infamous TJ article appeared and were already making an effort to defuse it.

An access to information request has already been filed in an attempt to retrieve these talking points.

If true, this shouldn't be surprising. Silly talk of a Liberal conspiracy aside, all sorts of people saw the original video on the day of the funeral. Even Rick Mercer, on July 10th, noted that his first reaction had been

"[The wafer is] in his pocket as we speak.... It's in his pocket with the gum."

And, oh yes, fingering Liberal Party figures by name as being responsible for the "conspiracy", or as bearing responsibility for getting to the bottom of the "conspiracy", is the kind of thing that can get you sued.

After this flakey outburst, I am inclined to think they reside within the confines of his fevered imaginings. Anyone willing to own up to being one of the "many other Liberals who are already involved in the necessary, if otherwise covert, process of dumping Dion as soon as he loses the next election"?
