All hail the CCD. Once supported by the likes of Tony Clement (formerly the head of CCD's Advisory Board) and Peter Kent, it was very, very good to this blogger.

Canadian Coalition For Democracies...RIP?
One of my favorites sources of Conservative crazy, the Canadian Coalition For Democracies (CCD) appears to have gone T.U. Its website is dead, and not too long ago (around late 2009, if I'm reading the history of edits page correctly) its wiki entry shifted from present to past tense.
All hail the CCD. Once supported by the likes of Tony Clement (formerly the head of CCD's Advisory Board) and Peter Kent, it was very, very good to this blogger.

From The Website Of The Canadian Coalition For Democracies
...a political action organization of which Peter Kent is a senior member. The "self hating terror supporter", by the way, is Jeff Halper.
And of course, there appear to be one or two saner voices in the forum where this delightful message appeared:
I don't know about anybody else, but I REALLY don't like seeing the words 'Jewish scum' posted on this site. I wouldn't like to see ANY religion called scum on this site.
...but we all know how a few bad apples can screw up your message, right?

...And The Group He Founded Hates Morgentaler
OTTAWA — A Conservative candidate’s suggestion that a private clinic be used as a model for health delivery across Canada prompted opposition charges that Prime Minister Stephen Harper wants to expand for-profit health care outside the public system.
Peter Kent made the comment during a recent campaign debate in Toronto’s Thornhill riding.
Buckets and myself have been trying to figure out why the group Peter Kent founded, the CCD, whose mandate says nothing about Canada's abortion laws (or lack thereof), appears on a list of organizations supporting the Canada Family Action Coalition complaint to the Judicial Council (.pdf here) re Henry Morgentaler's receiving the Order of Canada. In fact all I've got for my troubles in this direction are some vague legal-sounding threats from the CCD's President Al Gordon .
Nevertheless, they DO appear on this list, and nobody will say why.

Peter Kent And The Anti-Abortion Movement
Dr. Dawg gets credit for pointing out that Peter Kent, Tory Candidate for Thornhill, has ties to the CCD (Canadian Coalition for Democracies), best known for their anti-Islamic bias (evidenced by their support of the Tories "veiled voter legislation") and their attempts to smear Liberal Liberal MP Omar Alghabra.
And Bucket's gets credit for pointing out that the CCD is one of the organizations supporting the Canada Family Action Coalition complaint to the Judicial Council (pdf here). This complaint demanded that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Beverley Maclaughlin, be impeached for having chaired the committee that awarded the Order of Canada to Morgentaler.
Given Mr. Kent's relatively moderate stance (for a Tory) on Gay rights, it is difficult to understand why he should allow the CCD to be involved in rather shoddy attempt by the Canadian pro-Life movement to smear both Beverley Maclaughlin and Henry Morgentaler.
Oh wait, lets read that Lifesite headline again!
Star Tory Candidate" Peter Kent Totally For
Gay Political Agenda For Years
Some pro-life activists suggest strategic voting for Liberal to Stop His Bad
Influence on Tories
Quid Pro Quo? The CCD backs the Campaign Life complaint; Campaign Life doesn't make trouble for Kent.
If Mr. Kent wishes to salvage his "moderate" credentials, he needs to come clean on this.
