Is A Sun News Network Insider Trying To Screw The Sun News Network?
This is the second bit of embarrassing Michael Coren footage to have appeared within the last couple of days.
The first can be found here (although, truth be told, the audio looks to have been fiddled with--and there's an edit at the 7 second mark--but the gestures are all real).
Perhaps not coincidentally, Sun News is making a 2nd attempt at getting mandatory carriage. The decision on this, I hear from company insiders from the management layer, could come down sometime in the new year. And, I am told, the station is done like dinner if the ruling goes against them. Presumably, video of their on-air personalities giving what look very much like fascist salutes will exert a negative influence on the CRTC when they finally rule.
But where did all this stuff originate? It looks like program outtakes, and why would anyone at Sun News leak outtakes? Who can say, really? But the parent company has laid off and is still laying off 100s of people. Is somebody inside trying to strike back?

Moving Along With Sun TV
It went well enough. Coren slightly left-footed me towards the end when he asked me straight out why Holocaust Denial should be illegal, and I muttered something about "standards of discourse". However, I did manage to get in a shot at the federal government for not moving to beef up C-319 of the criminal code (as they have promised to do) after repealing section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act. And I was quite happy with my hair, which achieved today its slightly dishevelled, "got this sexxxy by accident, and if it were any sexxxier the other guys wouldn't have a chance" look. As for the crummy picture below (shot on a cheap tablet), that's what's outside of the Sun TV building--an application to put up condos on the site. Given what's happening with Postmedia, its enough to make you go hmmmm.
PS. Ran into Kathy Shaidle on the way out. She didn't recognize me, I don't think, but I got a small sample of her hair for the database when she wasn't looking. It might turn out to be useful in oppressing her come the Day of The Great Freedom Oppressing. I'll just say that Five Foot is looking the best I've seen her, is even approaching the outskirts of the city known as Hot.

Shmuley Boteach Carves B’nai Brith Canada A New One
So it is passing strange strange that B'nai Brith's Frank Dimant should have so vigorously defended Coren. Or rather, it isn't given who Dimant typically pals around with, but still it does him no credit that he should give Coren a pass on this stuff merely because he has defended Israel and bashed Muslims in the past.
But Shumley says it better. Let's turn the floor over to him:
Unfortunately, Dimant’s unbelievable defense of Coren has given him license to vilify me non-stop on his TV show while simultaneously defending the “saintly” Pope Pius. Indeed, Dimant himself sat in total silence while Coren made fun of my height, name, appearance, and then slandered my character. I have long given up hope of Sun TV reining in their shameful, immature, and unprofessional host and clearly they will give a TV show to absolutely anyone. But I did expect much more from a Jewish organization which purports to defend the Jewish community. We are a community that has been maligned for millennia and must be on our guard against defamation, and that applies also to extremist right-wing commentators like Coren who are friends with conservative Jews but who savagely attack liberal Jews. We are one people and dare not allow outsiders to divide us.
Truth be told, I gave Coren an out. Right after the interview was over, as he ordered me out of his studio, I asked him if he really wanted to be known for those comments. His reaction was to grow extremely aggressive, tell me I was threatening him, and then to have his Jewish intern attack me as well. I refused to leave the studio as he tried to evict me, enforcing my long-stated policy of ‘No tolerance for Intolerance.’ I told Coren he can call security, but I would not leave until I spoke to one of his superiors. Ever since, Coren’s attacks have lowered the bar on any semblance of journalistic professionalism or adult maturity, repeatedly attacking my name, appearance, and height. But though Coren chooses to be a disgrace to his profession and network, that does not mean that respected Jewish organizations need condone such shameful behavior.
Go get 'em Shmuley.

Michael Coren, Your Tears Sustain Me
Well, Michael Coren, I am those people. And you do get some stuff right in your column: its not a strictly anti-christian thing--I hate Santa even more than Jesus. But it isn't a crusade against "The West" by any means. Its something at once deeper and more idealistic than that.
Put simply, we militant secularists are against Joy. Life is boiled potatoes, offered on a plate without even margarine as a condiment. Xmas just makes people think that life is boiled potatoes with a bunch of gross sticky syrupy stuff added, that seems good for a bit and then tastes nauseating in its sweetness, which makes you lie around on the couch and fart like a pig for two weeks as your stomach reels from the excess! And which all just disguises the fact that once February comes around its back to boiled potatoes again, straight-up.
And as Joy breeds Hope, and Hope is never justified, we militant secularists eschew both. And if we don't need Joy and Hope, neither does anyone else. Quod erat demonstrandum.
Our philosophy is best articulated in that Xmas Classic cartoon How The Grinch Stole Xmas! Except you have to ignore the last five minutes of it, where The Grinch, on the very cusp of victory, cracks at the sound of music (there's a reason the Taliban hate music!) and gives those freaks in Whoville all their Xmas Crap back! Which, I might add, mostly winds up in a landfill before New Years Day!
I hear the studio insisted thay add that bit, but it totally spoils the story-line. My heart is broken every time I watch.

Gruending On The Breivik Killings And "The Right"
My view: if right-wing pundits like Steyn, and Tarrek Fatah, and Pam Geller aren't nuts, then Brevik's actions are sane. If dark-skinned Islamo-fascists really have infiltrated all levels of society--the police, the armed forces, the various political parties, the media, the public school system--then why wouldn't staging some sort of armed revolt be perfectly in order? If "leftists" like those kids on that island, or folks like myself, really are covering up for such terrorists, then isn't a bullet pretty much what we deserve (as indeed Michael Coren suggested)?
Now, of course these "thinkers" are nuts. And, at some level, Mark Steyn (for example) probably realizes he's spooning up boob-bait for the yokels that purchase his books. But I suppose the coin is good. The problem is with readers--like Breivik--who take Steyn's various theories more seriously than he does, and have the "courage" to act from Mr. Steyn's apparent convictions.
Steyn, Fatah, Geller, Coren, Mansur--these people "set the table" for folks like Brevik. That is their measure of responsibility.

The Mystery of Michael Coren
Maybe I'm just not seeing that irony.
In any case, the most charitable explanation for Mr. Coren's post is that he was drunk or on crack at the time. Just as likely, but more sinister, is the possibility that he was floating a few trial balloons in advance of his new show on Sun TV. After all, Lilley and Levant pretty have the explicit muzzie bashing end of things covered...but nobody is directing Teh Hate at Nordic Social Democrats. Maybe Mr. Coren sees a niche that is thus far unoccupied.
Also, Colby Cosh's attempt to change the subject is pretty wormy.
Also, Anders Brehing Breivik apparently bragged of his links to the English Defense League. Maybe Meir and the Shaidle's will arrange a meet and greet. Maybe he' already left comments on their blogs at one time or another.
And maybe, just maybe, Mr. Weinstein will do the right thing and, finally, distance himself from the EDL and all it stands for. I'm not holding my breath, mind you, but I have been informed he is capable of acts of simple human decency.

Fox News North Death Spiral Continues Spiralling Towards Death
Looks like Theo Caldwell (who?) is out and Michael Coren is in at Sun TV. Once thing about Michael Coren: while I can't stand his writing, he is a smooth and quite genial talk show host. The only problem: other than the now exited Mr. Caldwell (who?), nobody in Sun TV's line-up constitutes anything like a new face, and so it will continue to be difficult for them to attract new viewers. Mr. Coren's is a known quantity and his addition won't help that situation much.
One interesting side note: Coren was approached back in March by FNN and offered a position, which he refused, citing the fact that he could produce as well as host his CTS show. This change of heart makes me wonder at the financial state of CTS.

Clash Of The Titans!
Did another bloggers panel on the Coren Show today. It will be on tonight at 6:00 PM and then again tomorrow at 12:30 PM. Today I was paired with the Calgary Grit--Dangerous Dan Arnold--and pitted against designated wing-nut Andrew Lawton and Derek Fildebrandt of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. Michael Coren was, of course, our most cordial host. Our conversation ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous, with Dan and I responsible for most of the sublime bits, and Andrew almost single-handedly covering the ridiculous end of things.
I won't get a chance to see it tonight, as I'm off to see this guy. I felt pretty relaxed during the taping but don't know if that was a plus or not.

Are You Not Entertained?
Later this morning, I'm off to do Michael Coren's Tuesday blogger panel. Rob Silver and I are teamed up against a pair of teenage Libertarians. One of them has a heart condition and Mike Brock, well, he don't look too mobile. Since you can't kill what you can't catch, I think we'll do okay.

Ryan Doyle Replaces Dumped Michael Coren On CFRB
Tarek Fatah survived the storm at CFRB and will continue to co-host the 3-4PM hour with Ryan Doyle. Stay tuned.
Ryan who? And is he more or less fucked up in the head than Michael Coren?

CFRB Sacks Michael Coren
Here's the BCLSB version of Coren's greatest hits. Here's my favorite, where Coren tells a health science instructor they shouldn't teach because English isn't their 1st language.
Bye Bye asshole.

Michael Coren Exercises His Free Speechydom
Caller: Why is that relevant?
Coren: I’m asking you the question … it’s just courtesy … what do you teach?
Caller: I teach … um … health, science course
Coren: OK … I just got the impression … I’m not trying to be rude … but maybe English wasn’t your first language.
Caller: No … it’s not … but why is that relevant?
Coren: Because I think your English should be fluent if you’re teaching kids in the English language.
Yeah, Michael, and baldy headed pricks with fake English accents shouldn't be on the radio either.
h/t trssastt.

Abortion Brings Out The Weird In Michael Coren
Pesky little things. Why can't they just agree to being slaughtered and stop muddying the waters of Canadian politics...
Have unborn children actually expressed an opinion on this?

Michael Coren: Canadian Flag Barely Worth Lowering
Even the flag itself is something of a joke. It's not the great, grand standard upon which this country was built and for which so many died in two bloody world wars. That one boasted the emblem of a great world faith.
The great world faith, I am assuming, would be the British Empire, which is now deep in darkness.
Incidentally, the Red Ensign to which Coren refers underwent a number of changes over the course of time during which it was Canada's unofficial/official emblem. Strictly speaking, the soldiers who died in WWI were dying for a different flag than the soldiers who died in WWII.
Not that Coren would care. As long as they were dying for England rather than as free men of an independent nation.
Weirdly enough, the Red Ensign is the flag of preference for the Canadian Nazi movement. Here's a little shout out to it by none other than Marc Lemire (on Stormfront).

Free Dominion On Coren: Gay Men Like To Walk Around Naked, And Free Dominion Is Family Friendly
1) You can tell how eager Coren is to soft-soap the whole FD situation by the fact that, if you pay attention, you can catch him in a fib. Specifically, during the first couple of minutes of the interview Coren claims that, while he knows who the subject of the complaint is (Bill Whatcott), he will not name the man. He doesn't really say why. And then, towards the very end of the interview (lets say the 35 minute mark) a caller phones in and asks if the subject of the complaint is "the same guy who ran for mayor of Edmonton". Connie replies that the man is indeed Bill Whatcott, and Coren FEIGNS SURPRISE. "Oh My God THAT guy?" etc. etc. What I take from this behavior is that Coren wanted to keep the interview on the level of abstraction--are you for Liberty and Free Speech or not?--rather than bring it down to particulars: do you support this freak Bill Whatcott and the contents of his pamphlets.
2) The big WTF? moment occurs at around the same time in the interview, when Coren is expressing a certain mild disapproval of Mr. Whatcott, and Connie says that Bill is "just expressing himself" the same way those homosexuals who walked around naked during Pride Week were expressing themselves. Coren clearly sees that things are sliding off the rails, and gets them back on track by noting that only very few homosexual men actually went naked during the event in question, a statement with which Connie finally agrees.
3) About midway through the interview, Connie made a claim which I found quite strange, asserting (roughly) that FD moderators make efforts to keep the site "family friendly". Wondering how they could justify this statement, while linking to material by Whatcott that is just short of snuff literature--which shows (for example) graphic images of decapitated bodies--I asked the people at FD yesterday. Mark Fourier, Connies' partner and FD administrator, responded as follows (writing as Entropy Squared):
Family friendly at Free Dominion means exactly what Mark Fournier and Connie Wilkins determines it to be, just as it means what you determine it means on your own site. Family friendly is a subjective term and we treat it as such. If we don't think it's family friendly, it goes. We have no obligation to justify or explain to anyone the decisions we make in this area.
Which is fascinating when you think of it. Connie goes on the Coren show and claims that Free Dominion is "family friendly" and you naturally think of phrases like "fun for the whole family", "kid friendly", and the like. But that's not what they mean at all. In fact, when used at FD the term is defined "on the fly"--it is whatever Connie and Mark say it is at the moment they utter the words. Link to pictures of severed heads and, if Connie and Mark approve, you're "family friendly". Bill Whatcott is, therefore, "family friendly", although you probably wouldn't want your kids reading his pamphlets, and you probably wouldn't want the family dog to get close enough to pee on him in. Protest the presence of Alberta separatists on the list (for example) and boom, your ass might just get fired out the door!
Family friendly, in other words, but not towards actual empirical families.
