Tips on Beating Down the Conservative Menace
I'm not a Miller-basher but I don't disagree that John Tory would probably make a very good mayor for Toronto. That said, it's never going to happen in my opinion. It may not be fair, but the public perception of Tory, politically, is now "loser". Perhaps even with a capital "L". I just can't imagine Toronto voters electing a mayoral candidate they've already rejected after a return to City politics following his utter failure at almost everything he's tried since he last failed at getting elected mayor.I wouldn't mind being proven wrong though.
Don't really disagree, but if a year or so down the road the Center/ Center Right doesn't have an alternative to Miller (if Pinball doesn;t run), the might be people thinking "lets recruit Tory". None of the folks on Council look to me like they would have a chance.
No, Hudak would want a Harrisite to challenge Miller. The hard right would nominate Rob Ford instead of Tory.Tory has one job left for him to take. CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays.I know there is a non-aggression pact between Miller and Peggy Nash, but maybe we can strongarm Miller to step aside. I would prefer Peggy any day.
Just in response to a couple of the last comments. First, while I love Pinball as a man, and at one point I would have said he could beat ANYONE out for Mayor, I now see him as an unlikely choice for Mayor, given the troubles (some would say debacle) with the Argos since he took over there. Again, nothing against Pinball, but I think his time in upper management with the Argos may have soured the public on his abilities as an executive (read "politician") as opposed to his abilities as a coach.Second, if this is possible mathematically somehow, there is actually less than zero chance that Tory will become head of the Jays, imho (if that point was serious Mushroom). Beeston's gonna bring in a "baseball guy", I'm quite certain. Someone with a great deal of experience in Major League Baseball, and that's not John Tory (who has no experience in baseball whatsoever, as far as I know). Someone like Stan Kasten is, like, a GAZILLION times more likely, imho.
