File Under: Not Surprising

From Western Standard:

According to news reports, police have detained a suspect in Dr. Tiller's murder. The suspect, Scott Roeder has connections to Operation Rescue, as documented here (yes, normally I would have qualms about the source, but everything is well supported with supplementary links.)

It appears that Roeder is also a tax protestor, linked to the Montana Freemen, a group that -- if not exactly libertarian -- espouses libertarian-like views about individual sovereignty and the illegitimacy of government.

FWIW, wiki describes the Freemen as a "Christian Patriot" group. Quite a few of its members are doing time.

Quite a "nuanced" discussion over at the Western Standard. Of course murder is wrong, and yada yada yada...

Meanwhile this report is looking quite prescient.

Weird. I was just thinking of the Montana Freemen yesterday (I'm reading a book and Jordan, Montana is discussed).

Many of the adherents of the Freemen ideology are also members of the Christian Identity movement.

BCL,

At least one anti-abortion group has seized on Roeder's militia connections in order to downplay his links to organizations like Operation Rescue.

Better for them if he can be painted as a kooky libertarian. Hopefully, that won't work.

Jesus, the commenters at The Shotgun are as fatuous as ever:

I am going on record to state that I do not condone this assassination.

Poor Terrence. He must have to smoke a hell of a lot of pot these days to read them. ;)
