NATO commanders have been maintaining that they encircled the Taliban here, in the cluster of villages known as Pashmul, roughly 15 kilometers southwest of Kandahar city. "We've got the Taliban surrounded," Brigadier-General David Fraser said on Saturday.
In fact, the insurgents launched a massive retreat from Pashmul later that day, according to a Taliban commander interviewed in Kandahar city by a researcher for The Globe and Mail.
But they'll be back. So who thought this one would end any differently?
