Almost, it seems, from this quick Google News search for "Navdeep Bains", the Ontario MP that Stephen Harper smeared in the House yesterday by linking him and his family to Sikh terrorism. Nothing from the Sun Chain, as far as I can tell, but the event occurred mid-afternoon and I assume their people had all filed by that time and were out roaming the booze cans.
(And, oh yeah, the folks at Judeoscope are fine with the smear)
But the best, and least surprising part is, as the Natty Post's Don Martin notes:
Mr. Harper should apologize and distance himself from the unseemly linkage quickly. But he won't. When his dark side seeps into the spotlight, being this Tory means never having to say you're sorry.
...which means the story will be around for the next week or so. So let the bloggers blog, and let the Lib Lawyers ride out!
And I think a denunciation is in order.
I DENOUNCE THEE, STEPHEN HARPER,
YOU SLIMEY PRICK!
Ex-PM Sought Support of Terrorist Group
Paul Martin speaks to a meeting of the International Sikh Youth Federation in March 1990.
Kim Bolan, Vancouver Sun
Published: Tuesday, February 20, 2007
Paul Martin solicited the support of the terrorist International Sikh Youth Federation in his failed bid for the federal Liberal leadership in 1990, The Vancouver Sun has learned.
Martin made an impassioned speech to the ISYF's national convention in which he said he was honoured to "meet friends who share the same belief in this country, the same belief in peace, the same preparedness to defend themselves."
At the time of Martin's spring 1990 speech, the ISYF had already been identified as a terrorist group by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. Four in the group had been convicted in B.C. of the attempted assassination of a visiting Indian politician. Other B.C. members had met with a young would-be assassin who shot newspaper publisher Tara Singh Hayer in 1988.
Hmm... seems Paul Martin liked to hob nob with the terroristas.
THe usual pattern of Tory supporters when their PM or their Party does something idiotic is to try to find something else to put out there to claim its not really bad.. or to divert attention from the issue. Alfred is a perfect example of that.
Didn't one of the Tories speak to a controversial Iranian group sometime last summer?

Kinda like BCL with his Stockwell-of-the-day musings.
In the spirit of "keeping things positive" after yesterday's nastiness in the House, I think Dion should stand up and congratulate Harper on having rid his party of most of its Heritage Front neo-Nazis and Holocaust deniers after they played such a crucial role in building Riding Association infrastructure throughout the '90s.
Yeah. It was Jason Kenney who gave a little speech in support of an Iranian terrorist group last summer. In his defence, he's an utter moron.
And Dion wants to return some adscam thieves to the Party?
While the Tories are getting their panties in a knot - Baines father-in-law has stated that he is more than willing to stand as a witness with or without the sunset clause - a little detail the Tories ignore.
Then, I watched Jason Kenney blah blah blah on CPAC about the Liberals and terrorists with the feminine move of his hands and his pert little feminine mouth - ah, Jason you have some explaining to do about your connection with terrorists.
Oh, just minor little details to be swept under the run.
Let's see how it plays out.
I'd like to know what PMSHs question was.
Word was already out about Dion's 3 line whip,
perhaps Harper was going to ask if the honorable MP would be excused from the vote due to obvious conflict of interest.
Maybe he'll try again today to ask the question.
Yes, we likely are in for more 'It's not fair!'
and "I demand an apology!.'
'Harper is a big meanie!'
Still doesn't make Liberals any less 'soft on terrorism'.
I'd like to know what PMSHs question was.
Word was already out about Dion's 3 line whip...
Give it up, Tokyo Rose. You pasted that bit at at least one other blog I know of.
Public opinion is not a court of law and no one has to restrict themselves to the exact utterances of the slimy PM when the slime is self-evident.
You CONS really should have thought twice about choosing that Republican choad-swallower as your leader.
You neo-coms are behaving true to form. The louder you shout your manufactured indignation, the more we know there is something to the story in the Vancouver paper.
Why the sudden change on the anti-terror issue? Why is Dion now acting like a totalitarian on this issue? Why won't Dion or Bains answer any questions on it? Why does the left-dominated Senate even support extending the provisions?
SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!
Same thing they cried over the sponsorship allegations. And the income trust scandal. Which both turned out to be true.
What a buncha jackasses.
The Liberals overreaction to a legitimate inquiry begs the question: what is the Liberal Party trying to hide?
Oh shut up, foghorn.
OBVIOUSLY they don't want their hidden extreme-left wing agenda exposed.
wait till the picture of harper addressing the same group comes out publically tomorrow.
It's fascinating that you feel you have to "fight back the Conservative menace". Is it the overwhelmingly conservative judicial system which you're threatened by? The overwhelmingly conservative Senate? Maybe the overwhelmingly conservative CBC or the rest of the media? What about Canada's gargantuan conservative-oriented social programs & victims entitlement industry, there must be massive conservative momentum in it, no? The flood of conservative books forced on us at the local book stores? Conservative-themed movies out of Hollywood perhaps?
So, where is this huge, conservative menace? Or is it from the Canadian electorate? You know, democratically electing their representatives - is this the menace to Canada; Canadians? But you don't like those Canadians, they're not urban, urbane, sophisticated, enlightened, neutered and pasteurized Canadians, no, it's those rural knuckle-dragging, rednecked, wife beating, alcoholic gun-toting anti-abortion Christo-crazies who keep their wives barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen of their trailer that I keep reading about here. THOSE are the ones who elected this "worst government ever". How DARE they try to vote in a Non-Liberal government, that's OUTRAGEOUS! I keep looking for these 'neocons' but all I've found so far are regular people. Do you really need to constantly build up the fear, Big Brother?
Or are you guys just deluded paranoid losers who can't STAND anybody else's opinion but your own? Soldiers aren't walking down the streets of our cities; abortion wasn't made illegal; gays aren't being rounded up into detention centers. Canada hasn't crashed back to the Stone age because we've had a Conservative government for a year.
The fear-mongering, corruption, lies and rhetoric from all your so-called leaders have been exposed for what they are. The LPC doesn't speak for Canadians, it doesn't even speak for Liberals any more. God knows who is speaks for. Maybe the furniture, too hard to figure out.
You bring in anti-terror legislation which violates people's rights when you're in government, but when you're not in power you're against it after you said you supported it. If you get elected, will you reverse and be for it again? Or are you saying you believe that this government is more effective at dealing with terrorists so we can restore civil rights under a Conservative gov't? Who's to say? "Which way does the wind blow today?" "Which group do we suck up to this week?" "Why do we have such trouble sucking and blowing at the same time?" There just isn't a moral code that can make sense of your behaviour. Unless it's all the voices in your head that are causing the confusion.
Let's drop the writ already and get it done with. When the NDP becomes the Official Opposition, we'll see less and less of your irrelevant and incoherent posturing. The NDP at least realizes they're insane in a sane world; Liberals are the opposite and that's just too tough to fix. Seek immediate psychiatric help. And stay away from guns; you're only going to shoot off your mouth or your foot.
Maybe the overwhelmingly conservative CBC or the rest of the media?
You're talking about the National Post, the Calgary Herald, the Toronto Sun, Fox News and the rest of the Marxist media monopoly, right? Dimwit.
Conservative-themed movies out of Hollywood perhaps?
Don't blame me for the relativism of American culture. I hate it. You neocon fuckwits love it. It's one of the funniest features of your ideological incoherence.
So, where is this huge, conservative menace? Or is it from the Canadian electorate? You know, democratically electing their representatives?
You mean the 65% of non-CPC voting Canadians? Yep, there's a tidal wave of CPC support all right. In Ontario, they're currently at or under 30%.
I keep looking for these 'neocons' but all I've found so far are regular people.
Then you must live in a safely Liberal or NDP riding. I'm jealous.
Which party do think Jim Keegstra voted for last time out, genius?
Do you really need to constantly build up the fear, Big Brother?
He slaps Liberals down for fearmongering and then associates them with Orwellian dictatorship. Nobody wraps hypocrisy together with inchoate hysteria like a ranting neocon.
Soldiers aren't walking down the streets of our cities; abortion wasn't made illegal; gays aren't being rounded up into detention centers.
You sound disappointed.
Patience. Wait for a majority (it'll take a while...a long while).
God knows who is speaks for. Maybe the furniture, too hard to figure out.
Yes, things do seem rather hard for you to figure out. That's a shame.
There just isn't a moral code that can make sense of your behaviour.
Well, it's probably very different from the "moral code" which allows you to applaud a cowardly head of government who abuses his power and Parliamentary immunity to slander a political opponent who was a nine-year-old boy when the Air India bombing took place. I guess we can't all live up to those demanding moral standards.
Thanks for coming out, little Harperoid sheep. Now go back to the herd.
Learn how to spell slimy.
SIB, I think your comments proved every single one of my observations.
Are those the best responses you could come up with? Sad, pathetic and delusional responses. What colour is the sky in your world - red?
